Francois-Adrien Boieldieu short biography

The major composer of French opera in the beginning of the 19th century, Francois-Adrien Boieldieu enjoyed his first opera success at the age of 18. Because of Boieldieu's continuing success the Russian Tzar appointed him Director of French opera at the Russian court in St. Petersburg, a position Boieldieu held for 8years. Boieldieu is mainly responsible for defending French comic opera traditions against the increasingly popular Italian comedy operas of Rossini.
