Lili Boulanger short biography
Lili Boulanger began her professional music studies at age 6. For 10 years she studied harmony, piano, violin, cello, harp. Boulanger’s generally poor health conditions did not permit her to go to a regular school and practicing for a long time. Boulanger’s composition professors were Paul Fidal and Georges Caussade. At the age 19 Boulanger was the first woman to win the coveted Premier Grand Prix de Rome. Boulanger’s cantata Faust et Hélène received enormous success in Paris and Italy. Boulanger composed her best works in the Villa Medici in Rome.
