One of the most brilliant French composers of the second half of the 19^th Century, Emmanuel Chabrier worked for the Ministry of the Interior as his parents did not want him to become a musician. It was only in 1880 when Chabrier could fully devote himself to music. Chabrier's most successful compositions are colorful orchestral and piano works. His opera Le Roi Malgre Lui was received enthusiastically. Chabrier’s influence on future generation of French composers was quite significant.
