Francois Francoeur short biography
An outstanding French violinist and composer of the 18th Century, Francois Francoeur belongs to a distinguished dynasty of musicians. It is, therefore, quite natural, that Francoeur started his professional music studies with his father. Francoeur became a violinist at the L’Opera at the age 15. After a series of very successful concert tours, Francoeur became a member of Concert Spirituel. Francoeur’s other important positions include 24 violons du roy, Inspector and later General Manager of L’Opera, and Music Master to the King. Francoer’s important violin innovations of the day included variety of bowings, leaps, triple and quadruple stops and playing in all positions. Francoer’s methods and violin compositions are an integral part of the violin repertoire.
