A prominent American composer, organist and teacher, John K. Paine studied in Berlin. In 1862, Paine was appointed professor and dean at Harvard. Paine’s numerous works, romantic and colorful, were enthusiastically received in America and abroad. Paine was a leading teacher of the day, many of his students became the distinguished composers.
