Louis Spohr short biography
A highly acclaimed violin virtuoso, conductor and composer, Louis Spohr is famous in the violin world. Spohr wrote 15 concertos for violin and orchestra in addition to operas and chamber music. Spohr was one of the first conductors to use the baton. In 1822, at the recommendation by Weber, Spohr was appointed general director of music at Kassel, the position he held for a lifetime.
