Johann Mattheson short biography
A great German composer, singer, organist and writer, Johann Mattheson started to compose at the age 7 and sang at the Hamburg opera at 15. Mattheson was recognized and respected for his enormous talent and intellect. In 1703, the influential Mattheson introduced Handel to the Hamburg establishments. In 1719 Mattheson became deaf but continued to write books and essays. Mattheson was the first important musician to recognize J.S. Bach as a great organist and composer.
