An important French composer, Albert Roussel started life as a naval officer. Roussel began professional music studies with Vincent d'Indy at the Schola Cantorum where he later taught. Roussel always admired Debussy’s works and one can certainly hear Debussy’s strong influence in the Roussel’s compositions. Roussel’s late works are written in neo-classical style. Roussel was highly acclaimed in his lifetime and his reputation is still on the rise.
